Tip 2
Timeless decorations rather than festive fad
When it comes to decorating your home for the festive season, it’s easy to get caught up with the latest trends. Instead, opt for timeless tree decorations that stand the test of time. Investment in quality trinkets can pay dividends for your purse, and the planet over time. Paperchase, Wilko and M&S offer a fantastic range.
Tip 3
The cards of Christmas past
When all the celebrations are over, don’t throw your cards in the bin, give them a new life as a gift tag or origami tree decoration in years to come. Or you can buy seed cards from Paperchase which can be planted after Christmas.
Tip 4
Look after the tree that keeps on giving…
An artificial tree used for 3 years has a lower carbon footprint than a real tree. So look after your tree and it will look after the planet. Buy yours at stores like Wilko, TK Maxx and Sainsbury’s.
Tip 5
An advent calendar that lives again…
Instead of buying the usual cardboard and plastic calendar, why not treat your little one to a calendar that lasts a lifetime which you can fill with their favourite treats each year.
Tip 6
Carry your shopping consciously
When you head into Woking for your festive shopping spree, don’t forget to take your re-usable bags to get all your precious purchases home.
Tip 7
Light up with LEDs
LED lights use an average of 75 per cent less energy and can last up to 25 times longer than traditional bulbs, so if you haven’t already, make the switch to LEDs at stores like TK Maxx, Wilko, Robert Dyas and Sainsbury’s.
Tip 8
Recycled wrapping
It takes 50,000 trees to make the 8,250 tonnes of paper used across the UK at Christmas time. So look out for recycled rolls in stores like Paperchase and M&S and avoid the use of sticky tape, instead opting for natural cord and raffia. Plus Bare & Fair sell recycled wrapping paper, reusable fabric gift bags and reusable fabric crackers which are all great sustainable choices.
Tip 9
Guilt-free festive feasts
Purchasing locally grown produce in Market Walk or organic options at Sainsbury’s or M&S will help you have a guilt-free Christmas.
